Suddenly Jeon Duk Hwan falls, and in convulsion, but it becomes real, too real to be acting. He vomits blood. Real blood. The staffs are in panic as they try to help him. The ambulance comes and the sirine’s sound rings at everyone’s ears.
Flashback to 3 months earlier.
This is drama “Emperor’s Voice” first filming with new substitute actor, Ji Dong Wook. PD Hong is nervous, so do Writer Lee. They have to cast less popular actor because the previous famous actor refused the script and did other drama instead. Writer Lee gives Dong Wook a prep talk, saying he should enjoy this filming. Minutes later, the female lead comes, actress Ha Ji Young. Everyone gets up and greets her. She smiles brightly and goes to chat with PD Hong. Dong Wook comes to her and greets her sunbae, they bow to each other, trying hard not to look awkward. They also exchange greetings and talk out of respect.
“Noona, do you know that we’re from same university? You’re my sunbae.” Dong Wook says.
“Oh, is that so? Good.” Ji Young replies.
“Ah yeah.”
Dong Wook is really embarrassed to continue their conversation. At that time Ji Young’s stylist comes and asks her to get ready for make up and costume. They both prepare for their first scene together, horse-riding along the beach.
Ji Young and Dong Wook are quite skilled with horse-riding so they don’t need body doubles. But even then, the PD still make them suffer and they are shooting for hours. After riding horse, Ji Young and Dong Wook hace to play-fight with each other and roll on the beach. They act beautifully that the staffs around them are mesmerized. PD Hong looks at them seriously but he smiles happily at the result.
The actors are just finished the horse-riding scenes. They both look exhausted. Dong Wook looks bruised and battered. He's trying to catch his breath and relax. His manager gives him a bottle of mineral water. While he drinks he takes a glance at Ji Young. She wipes her face with a white towel. She catches his glance and asks why he looks at her. He gulps nervously and says he isn't staring at her.
"Ah what Noona? No i don't stare ar you. That only your feelings." Dong Wook says
"Hey kiddo, it's okay. It's not like you're the only person staring at me like that."
"I'm not a kiddo though!"
"So you indirectly say you stare at me?'
"No! Aish this woman!"
“What? This woman? Where’s your manner?” Ji Young balks at him.
“Ah, no no no... I’m sorry, Noona!” Dong Wook bows at her while still grumbles.
Ji Young just leaves him and goes near the beach to play. She asks her manager to take her picture near the shore and her manager complies. Dong Wook sees her activity and wants to take picture too, he totally copies Ji Young but he’s unaware of it.
Meanwhile Detective Park Dong Joo is on duty. He is called to Police Station because there’s a case within his specialization, to read lips movement. There’s an old lady caught for stealing money at her disabled foundation and she is mute person. Although his special ability to read lips movement is handy, Dong Joo actually dislikes it because he should pay attention to the lips properly and stare at them for long time. He grumbles that it seems only his family can hear voices and the others are just too dependant to them. Because his ability, even though the person is standing quite far from him and he can’t hear the sound, but he can read what the person says. Such a bothersome ability, he says to himself.
His little brother, Park Soo Ha, a senior high school student also have that ability to hear people’s voices. But it’s little more special because he can hear people’s minds just by looking at their eyes. So automatically he can tell if somebody lying or not. It’s really bothered him and he doesn’t even know why he gets the ability. All he knows, he can hear people’s thoughts since childhood. Sometimes the sounds are just too noisy for him that he prefers to wears headphone everywhere, same like his hyung who likes to plug the earphone so doesn’t need to hear the voices.
Dong Joo meets the thief at the Police Station. He looks at her carefully while translated for other polices. He concludes it’s clearly a theft and a premeditated case. He suggests to bring the case over to the prosecution office as soon as possible.
The old lady appoints Lawyer Cha from Cha Law Firm to represents him. As new lawyer, Cha Kwan Woo is overjoyed for his first case and promises to do the best. Meanwhile, his colleague lawyer friend, Lawyer Jang Hye Sung is not really interested on the case. She’s jaded, predictable lawyer who become lawyer just to have stable income. Her lines of delivery when defending a case are predictably similar, to the point even judges can memorize her lines. But she actually has good sense of justice, as pointed out by a judge.
Back to “Emperor’s Voice” filming set, the first scene of Ji Dong Wook comes out good. Dong Wook and Ji Young continues their scene, tomorrow they will shoot cave scene. They both read the scripts carefully. Dong Wook asks how they should play the scene.
“I don’t know if it’s good, but what about we also reveal part of our body, then I warm you?” Ji Young says.
“Ah, body heat? Then as script says I’m unconscious, then you panic. You then try to warm me up, but no response. Then you should give me CPR kiss,” Dong Wook suggests.
“CPR? CPR kiss? How I can do that?”
Dong Wook argues that it will make the scene better, but Ji Young doesn’t think so. So Dong Wook finaly suggests that she will only almost give him CPR kiss, then he startled and wakes up. Ji Young agrees with that, while Dong Wook slowly smirks.
World’s Production CEO, Anthony Kim receives a call. It seems from reporter of Goryeo Ilbo. His face turns to upset. He listens to reporter’s questions, but only quiet, unable to move his lips. At last, when the reporter asks the last question, he only answers “I understand. Write what you want, I’ll take care of it.” He hits his table to seethe his anger. He looks at the window, before drives off to the filming set. He will come to meet “Emperor’s Voice” writer, Lee Go Eun.
Anthony comes to Go Eun, he asks how many episodes have been written and Go Eun answers ten. He wants her to take things swiftly but not rushed. Go Eun tells him not to worry, she already has plans for 50 episodes. He tells her about the latest news articles, all articles accused them to distort history because they use King Chunghye as hero, while Chunghye is never considered hero and only famous of his immoral behavior. Lee Go Eun is perplexed, while he takes out his tablet and start browsing. He browses the latest news on several news portals and their drama is on the top list, but almost all articles on the news portal trashing the drama. Anthony is upsets because this only brings bad reputation to drama, even though they already stated it’s work of fiction. Still, the fickle journalists write down about it like there’s no tomorrow, causing stir and controversy in netizens. Anthony suggests changing the character’s name and making it fictional.
“But, CEO Kim, we already shoot his portions, shouldn’t it too difficult to change it now?”
“Listen, public approval is everything here. Reporters are having field day and I feel like my head will burst if the reporters ask once again. We have to meet the demand.”
“Then if I change the character’s name, doesn’t it guarantee our success?”
“At least people will stop comparing the character to real Chunghye. I won’t care it now if you change his name to Wang Go, Wang Yoo, whatever, but netizens already criticize us! Not only that but if we don’t meet public demands there’s a chance our investor will withdraw the money.” Anthony argues.
Go Eun relents, she sees no point to continue her argument with her boss. So she change the character’s name to Wang Yoo. It seems everyone will accept the decision. After decided the name, they go to tell the actor himself.
The decision is abrupt but Joo Jin Moo, actor who plays Wang Yoo, can accept the decision and continue filming. Writer Lee and PD Hong also announce that they’ll go to China to film portion of drama inside Forbidden City. The cast are clearly happy they can visit China. Anthony checks the script for China’s shooting for the last time. He smiles at the script while making correction. He also suggests Writer Lee to change some storyline.
Writer Lee works on the script before hands out the final script to everyone. They’re already in China, inside Forbidden City. The most important filming here is coronation scene. It’s for the first episode to start with a bang. There’s no way back except to continue the filming.
