Can You Hear My Voice: Episode 2

The crew and cast seem enthusiastic filming inside Forbidden City, China. They have difficulties to get persmission at first, but because CEO Kim’s connections in China they can breeze through the bureaucracy. Dong Wook wakes up since early morning. He’s still sleepy and a bit dizzy after drinking a bottle of soju last night. He walks past the hotel corridor for a cup of coffee. But his nose smells kimchi fried rice instead and it’s coming from Jin Moo’s room.

“Hmm, smells delicious. Maybe sunbae is cooking,” Dong Wook says to himself.

He knocks Jin Moo’s door and asks if he’s cooking fried rice and it makes him so hungry right now. Jin Moo is surprised seeing Dong Wook first thing in the morning. He lets Dong Wook enter and prepares the fried rice for two. Jin Moo says because there’s mini kitchen here he uses that to cook. Dong Wook nods while stuffing his mouth with food. The two male leads of the drama eats silently but they acknowledge that the food is tasty. Dong Wook says thank you for the food and gives him thumbs up.

“Nevermind. Thanks for coming too!” Jin Moo replies.
“I think Sunbae should cook foods everyday from now on. The food is simply delicious,” Dong Wook praises him.
“You’re just so hungry,” Jin Moo teases him.

Today they will film coronation scene. The cast should come at 10 in the morning. Ji Young’s manager comes knocking her door at 8. To his surprise, she already wakes up and takes a shower. She says she couldn’t sleep last night and ended up waking so early. Her manager jokes that she’s nervous as if she’s getting married for real. Ji Young denies that and playfully grabs her manager’s neck, saying it’s her first time shooting in China so of course she’s nervous. Her manager asks her if she will nervous at her own wedding?

“Hey! Are you my manager or wedding agency?” Ji Young talks back.

Meanwhile Anthony and Writer Lee is still in Japan for negotiating sponsor contracts. There’s Chinese-Japanese man, Kenzo Watanabe, eager to fund half of production cost. Anthony Kim is excited to see the sponsor. Watanabe is ridiculously rich man and he tells Anthony and Writer Lee how much he loves her script, or that he expressly arranged the meeting to meet her. Anthony only speaks so little Japanese but he brags around and translates for Writer Lee, since she can’t speak Japanese.

Watanabe is uncertain on the script but he sees glimpses of potential. Watanabe wants to contract the drama, with one big condition: It must reach number 1 spot during its run. Can they make that happen? In exchange, he will gives 10 billion won as the investment on the drama. That’s beyond his power, so Anthony tries to explain that ratings are unpredictable these days so they can’t be so sure.

“Of course, that’s why it’s your job to reach and maintain no.1 spot,” Watanabe pressures them.

Anthony thinks hard and finally makes the promise. The contract is signed, and the first deposit is set to pay today. The duo is overjoyed with new flow of money. Afterwards, they catch flight to China and attends the filming.

Meanwhile at the filming site everyone is so busy to adjust the filming. It’s not easy at all to handle so many actors and extras. The PDs are tired and overworked, they wonder why Anthony and Writer Lee not come soon.

The coronation scene acted out so grand. It highlights the beauty of Empress Ki and uses the set to the advantage. It’s taken from so many angles and the scenes have to be done rather quickly. The actors are tired but feel happy.

Dong Wook jokes with Ji Young after filming the coronation scene.

“Noona do you realize you rob something today?”
“Huh?”
“You just robbed my heart.”

Dong Wook cheesily laughs and Ji Young can’t help but laugh too. He’s really strange guy, she thinks. He gets closer to her while she keeps him at bay. She doesn’t want to start rumour because she’s too close to a male lead. Jin Moo comes to them and suggests to take picture together. Ji Young immediately agrees and soon the three take a picture together. But Dong Wook doesn’t seem too happy about it and Ji Young notices it.

Over at Cha Law Firm, the deaf woman’s case is taken by Lawyer Cha Kwan Woo who is really excited at his first case. But the client is actually lying at the amount of money she stole. She says she doesn’t remember the theft but turns out she always writes down the amount of money she stole. Her client also has mental breakdown at the court and Lawyer Cha turns to panic. Lawyer Jang, who watches the trial, feels bad to her colleague. But what she can do, obviously the client is lying and she knows it. The police who comes to the trial remembers Dong Joo’s words that it’s useless to interrogate the lady and just send her to the court.

Dong Joo spends his time to investigate the crime scene at his area. There’s an accident involved a truck that crashes with a car, but the truck driver runs away. He drives over there and surprised at the amount of people watching the accident.

Kwan Woo is up for closing arguments, and when it’s his turn, he can’t open the presentation file on the computer and keeps opening embarrassing girlband videos. The judge loses his patience and screams at Kwan Woo. He makes a point that it only took the judge fifty seconds to get frustrated that Kwan Woo wasn’t listening to him, so how would it feel to live that way for fifty years? He doesn’t argue that she didn’t commit a crime, but asks what might’ve happened if one person had listened to her in all that time.

“What could’ve changed if just one person had heard her cry?” Kwan Woo defenses.

He’s arguing for a lesser sentence, not for her to walk away guilt-free. The judges decide to give her lesser sentence and her client thanks him. Lawyer Jang congrats him while he puts his earnest smile on it. Suddenly her phone rings and it’s from Anthony. He tells Lawyer Jang to prepare everything needed for a contract document. He says they score big sponsor from Japan. She nods while listening and will prepare it tomorrow.

Filming still continue in China and today Dong Wook will have scenes with Kim Seo Hyun who acts as his stepmother and Empress Dowager. They act out a confrontation scene when Ta Hwan is just installed as the emperor. Dong Wook is really nervous that he blurts out his lines and makes many NGs. Seo Hyun tells him to relax.

“Am I making you nervous, Ji Chang Wook-ssi? Am I looking too evil?”
“No, not like that Sunbae,” Dong Wook nervously says.
“Guess my villain role gives you chill that you can’t concentrate. Relax!”

Dong Wook doesn’t say anything anymore and tries to focus with his lines. They should finish the scene quickly before it turns dark. He really can’t explain why he feels uneasy around her. That’s so different around Ji Young because she makes him comfortable.

Meanwhile Jin Moo is eager to show off his cooking skills to staffs and cast. They fill his room until only a little space between them. Jin Moo practically can cook everything. Ji Young also comes to the room but she just sees him cooking. She confesses never having time to cook. Jin Moo teases her if her future husband should cook for her then. Her face becomes red because she’s embarrassed by the thought of it.

World Production CEO, Anthony Kim, holds meeting with his production staffs. He’s satisfied with the filming so far and tells them to not lose focus. He then tells them about the investment from Watanabe.

“Earlier today I already signed contract with Watanabe. He will transfer the deposit soon. But he has high standard and condition. We must reach and maintain no.1 ratings spot,” Anthony explains.
“But CEO Kim, isn’t it too difficult? We have 50 episodes drama how we will always reach no.1?” asks a staff.
“That’s our problem. Right, it’s difficult but I’m Anthony. I will make the impossible possible!”
“And if we don’t?”
“We die,” Anthony answers.

Anthony suddenly tears up, recalling the moment he was threatened by Watanabe. He’s rich guy and Yakuza member. He swears to tear off Anthony’s limbs and makes him pay back every single cent. The staffs are horrified by the thought of it. But Anthony doesn’t let them to swallow in it. Instead he orders everyone to work hard and prepare for the premiere

“Let’s prepare for the next week’s premiere. We can do it!” He rallies everyone.
