EMPRESS KI HEIRS

EPISODE 4

Ta Hwan just walks casually and smiles happily after his meeting with managers and directors but then he sees Seung Nyang and his brother. His smile disappears when sees them together. He confronts them and asks what they are doing.

“Oh, Ta Hwan-ah, here’s my college friend, Seung Nyang.” Joong Won said, intends to introduce her to Ta Hwan.

“I know her, hyung. Actually I’m the one who asked her to come here.”

Ta Hwan takes Seung Nyang to his office and asks whether she knows his brother or not. He doesn’t like when she’s talking with Joong Won. Seung Nyang recalls they coincidentally met when she went to a vacation to Bali 10 years ago but it was when she’s with her ex-boyfriend. She met him in college occasionally and went to few drinks together.

“Who’s your ex-boyfriend?” asks Ta Hwan.

“Why are you curious? He’s my college friend.”

“I mean, his name. Who is he?”

“Nope, I won’t tell you before you give me my key...” Seung Nyang jokingly says.

They then start talking and joking toward each other. But Ta Hwan wants to hold the key longer, so he makes excuse that he forget where he puts her key. “Let’s meet on Saturday 3pm at DDP and I’ll give you the key. I forget where it is now.” “Okay then, let’s meet tomorrow. Don’t forget to bring the key!” Seung Nyang warns him. Ta Hwan then wants to take her for lunch but she already has plan today and she has to work in the evening. She bids farewell.

Jin Tal Tal already waits for her in a cafe. She apologizes that she’s late but he says no worry. Today it’s Tal Tal turn to tell about his problem. He works on a lawyer firm nowadays and meets a girl he likes. 

The problem is the girl seems to look for chaebol than lawyer although he’s quite succesful as lawyer. She pats him on the back and says there will be girl who falls in love with him. Maybe a wedding planner, manager or even an idol. 

He then asks her how his father is doing nowadays. He feels bad because he snatched her father’s position at the lawyer firm. Seung Nyang only says her father gets better nowadays and assures him he’s worthy as a lawyer. Tal Tal asks why she didn’t want to be a lawyer and instead taking multiple part-time jobs. She answers that’s because she doesn’t want to suffer like his father although all her family seems tied to lawyering job since her little brother also has a crush to a lawyer noona.

Oh Soo comes to Ta Hwan’ s office. Although Oh Soo is older than him but Ta Hwan never addresses him as hyung because he feels on the same position as him and they only become friend through business matter. 

“Ta Hwan-ah, I heard you give Youngie cold treatment. Why are you doing this?”

“I never like her why I should waste my time with her, Oh Soo-ya”

“But you agree to marry her at the end of the year, you jerk. You shouldn’t do this. She’s my stepsister. You know business matter. She’s as important for your company as to myself.”

But Ta Hwan doesn’t want to talk about it. He also already have a plan to date with her, what’s the problem? Oh Soo warns him not to mess with Oh Young but Ta Hwan just laughs it off and says that he will treat her well if only he starts growing fond of her. Ta Hwan then has another plan, he invites Oh Soo for lunch because he hasn’t had lunch yet. When they walk out of the office, Joong Won and Secretary Kim notice them. Joong Won stares at Oh Soo with jealousy, he never wins anything against that man and if Oh Soo and Ta Hwan make alliance he will be threatened.

They go to a Italian restaurant and order spaghetti. Ta Hwan talks about new project plan in Jeju Island and if Oh Soo can help him to design and execute the plan. After all, Oh Soo is the Executive Director in his company. Oh Soo agrees to help Ta Hwan this time. They have coffee afterwards.

Seung Nyang starts working that evening as sparing partner for professional boxer. She works diligently and get paid handsomely although she has scars everywhere on her body. She then goes home by bus. Her brother, Nam Hoon is already at home and Seung Nyang starts questioning him about the cigarettes and the man sleeping here the night before. But Nam Hoon is quick to make excuse and said that’s all his friend’s cigarettes and she may or may not know about his friend. They start bickering and Seung Nyang threatens not to cook for him today if he doesn’t confess the truth. But Nam Hoon prefers to escape from the house rather than answers her questions. He says he will be back late. Seung Nyang sighs and wonders how his lovely brother changes. They used to have good relationship and even singing and playing guitar on holiday but now he just another high school rebel. 

“The only good thing about him is his brain it seems,” Seung Nyang talks to herself.

It’s Saturday and Oh Young dresses up prettily to meet Ta Hwan today. She texts Ta Hwan to not forget their date this afternoon at Everland. Ta Hwan replies OK. One hour before their date she’s already at the amusement park. 

She then waits for him near ferris wheel and rollercoaster. Little did she know that Ta Hwan hates rollercoaster because he had bad experience with it and doesn’t want to be near it. Ta Hwan arrives at the park but when he sees her near rollercoaster, he starts sweating and palpitating. He has deep trauma after rode rollercoaster in Taiwan when he’s a child. He starts to turn around the car and goes to DDP instead. 

Seung Nyang goes to a gallery at DDP. There are many painting collections and also portrait drawings. She’s interested in one of the drawing. It seems the drawing of a king, a very handsome king. At the right bottom corner of the drawing it has initial “NC”. The drawing titled “Yuan Emperor ca. 1340”. At the moment, Ta Hwan comes and calls her name. Seung Nyang turns around and gets to see the resemblance between Ta Hwan and the man in the drawing. She’s confused for a second.

“Ah, this drawing looks like me, you think? But it’s just a drawing, maybe the painter gets some inspirations from me... Hahaha,” Ta Hwan says jokingly.

“You joke around! You just scared me. I thought you’re Yuan emperor reincarnation or something.” Seung Nyang said.

Oh Young already has waited Ta Hwan for a long time. She’s worried Ta Hwan has a problem or something. At DDP Ta Hwan gives her the key and at the moment Oh Young calls him. Ta Hwan annswers Oh Young with whispering voice and she can’t listen him. Seung Nyang looks at him suspiciously. She asks if it’s her girlfriend. Ta Hwan can’t lie and answers she’s actually his fiancee. But he never truly loves her and he isn’t serious about her. Seung Nyang gets angry because Ta Hwan looks like a player, playing two women’s hearts at the same time. But Ta Hwan argues he only considers Seung Nyang as friend. They just meet as friends. Seung Nyang gets up and leave, still angry at Ta Hwan’s behavior. Ta Hwan’s left speechless at the gallery and decides to come to Oh Young.

“I’m sorry I’m late. I actually can’t come to the amusement park.” Ta Hwan tells Oh Young.

“You bad jerk, makes me waiting for you for hours!! I know you maybe play around with Oh Soo Oppa or any girl you like.”

“Do you really think that way? I’m sorry I’m doing wrong to you. Stop waiting for me.”

Oh Young feels Ta Hwan’s last words piercing through her heart. But she still maintain her strong facade.

“A date is a date. Let’s play at this park before it closes!” Oh Young invites Ta Hwan to play around and makes him following her.

At last, Ta Hwan tries to be cheerful around Oh Young. He allows her to ride rollercoaster but he himself won’t try it. However his mind is wandering to Seung Nyang. He’s smittened by Seung Nyang, what starts as mere fascination now it seems he always think about her. Oh Young doesn’t know Ta Hwan’s smiles are because he thinks about Seung Nyang. She asks Ta Hwan to drive her home too. Ta Hwan drives her home and walks with her till her house gate. 

That night, they have their own thoughts. Seung Nyang eats dinner while thinks deeply about her impression on Ta Hwan. He seems sincere to her but instead a playboy, she thinks. While Ta Hwan thinks about his relationship with Oh Young and Seung Nyang. At this rate he will still has to marry Oh Young even though he thinks about Seung Nyang now everyday. Oh Young also in deep thought. She feels her heart are crushed because Ta Hwan’s words. “Stop waiting for me, you said?? Bad jerk, after you make me fall in love with you!!” She drowns her sorrow with soju.

Ta Hwan’s mother calls him to inform urgent board meeting. It seems Joong Won makes a move and tries to oust Ta Hwan from his position. Ta Hwan meets her mother at the office. Joong Won is already coming to office. They have to think fast before Joong Won influence the others!
