Empress Ki Heirs: Episode 2

Empress Ki Heirs
Episode 2
DESTINY

Last scene from episode 1, Seung Nyang stares at a couple who are inside the cafe and remembers something. Then, her phone rings. She checks her phone and reads the message through Kakao Talk. She receives a message from her bestfriend telling her that she looks tired and asks why she is smiling. Seung Nyang thinks for awhile and looks around the cafe. She sees her bestfriend, Jin Tal Tal, seated at the far end corner of the cafe. Tal Tal waves his hand and smiles at her.

During her break time, she joins Tal Tal on his table. She serves him his tea and asks him when did he arrived and even asks him if he already got a French girlfriend. Tal Tal laughs and tells her that he used to date a French girl who looks like Angelina Jolie but their relationship didn’t worked out. Seung Nyang looks at him with amazement.

Just outside the cafe, Tahwan arrives and comes out of his BMW while talking to his mother on the phone. He tells her that he is sorry that their dinner shall be cancelled because he needs to meet someone.  Her mother, looking disappointed, tells him that he understands him and that they still have next time. He tries to cheer her up and bids her goodbye. Then, he enters the cafe.

He goes directly to the counter and orders an Americano coffee. After getting his order, he goes to the table next to Seung Nyang and Tal Tal, who are still busy chatting. Seung Nyang tells Tal Tal that even if she is busy on her bunch of part-time jobs and finds no time to date, she still believes in destiny. Tahwan, who is busy on his phone at that time, chuckles upon hearing it. He secretly glances at Seung Nyang and continues to listen. He even chuckles more whenever Seung Nyang tells cheesy things about destiny/fate, soulmates, and true love. Seung Nyang, who is starting to notice that he is also listening, ignores him and continues on what she is saying. While Tal Tal listens to her attentively and sometimes teases and laughs with her.

Tahwan looks at Tal Tal annoyingly. Then, his phone rings. Oh Soo invites Tahwan in his party at a bar tonight. Tahwan rejects and tells him that he is meeting somebody tonight. Oh Soo jokingly asks him if he’s going to finally meet his destiny tonight. Tahwan just laughs at the word “destiny” and tells him that he too is also a “destiny believer”.

It’s the beginning of the semester at Yuan High School. A group of students gathers around two boys who are arguing. Cha Nam Hoon, Seung Nyang's little brother, tells the other guy to stop bullying other students, but the other guy tells him not to intervene with his plans. Nam Hoon blocks his way and repeats what he said. The other guy, looking disgusted, grabs him ready to punch him in the face when someone yells from the crowd.

Choi Young Do appears with a smirk on his face and shoves the other guy, who looks terrified seeing him. Young Do tells him that it has been a long time and even calls him “Water Boy”. Nam Hoon just stares at him. The crowd feels the tension between the two guys as both clench their fist. Some of the students start to cover their eyes.

And then, both do the brofist gesture. The students look surprised because Young Do and Nam Hoon always compete each other on academics and extra-curricular activities. But little do they know that they are best of friends when outside the school.

Then, the bell rings. Everyone goes to their own classes, muttering to one another what happened to the two hot guys of Yuan High School. Nam Hoon notices something from afar but Young Do calls for him. He just ignores what he saw and goes with Young Do to their class.

It’s almost night time. Joong Won is still busy working when Secretary Kim enters his office and reminds him about Tahwan. Joong Won tells his secretary that he needs to finish the paperwork. Secretary Kim reminds Joong Won about the past when he used to play with his brother. Joong Won tells him that everything is already in the past and needs to be forgotten. He even reiterates that he does want to see his younger brother.

Seung Nyang arrives at her next job— as a waitress in a fine dining restaurant. The other waiters and waitresses whisper to each other that the Yuan Empire Group’s CEO will have dinner at their restaurant. She overhears them but just ignores it. She continues to serve the customers cheerfully.

On the other side of the restaurant, Tahwan, feeling nervous, waits for his older brother. Hours pass by but no Joong Won. He remembers the phone call he receives from his father’s secretary on that morning and thinks deeply to himself when Seung Nyang goes to him and asks him if he already wants to order. But it seems that Tahwan doesn’t hear her. She looks at him pitifully and decides to leave him. On her way to the counter, she tells to herself that Tahwan has sad but beautiful puppy eyes.

After another hour of waiting, Tahwan decides to go home. As soon as he stands up, he hears a familiar voice telling him, “Leaving so soon?” He turns around to see who it is and he’s right, it’s Joong Won. Tahwan looks glad to see him.

The restaurant’s manager approaches his staff and tells them that he is in big trouble because the pianist they hired for tonight’s performance got sick. His staffs start to look worried also. Seung Nyang joins them and asks what the fuss is. Then, one of the employees looks at her suspiciously and asks if she knows how to play the piano. She says yes and feels afraid when everyone starts to stare at her devilishly. Then, they bring her to the staff’s room.

Tahwan feels awkward but happy to see his older brother after for a long time. He asks him how is he and their father. Joong Won pauses for awhile and looks at him. He asks him not to bother himself thinking about him and their father and tells him to finish his food. Tahwan, feeling embarrassed, shuts up and eats his food. Joong Won secretly glances at him.

A classical music begins to be played in the restaurant. Everyone looks mesmerized as Seung Nyang, dressed in a long white gown, plays J.S. Bach’s Air in G string. Upon hearing it, Tahwan pauses and listens attentively. The music ends and everyone applauses and praises Seung Nyang’s performance. She looks happy and overwhelmed on the audiences’ reactions.

After a few minutes, Joong Won decides to leave and Tahwan follows his brother to send him off. Tahwan bows at him and leaves. But before Joong Won enters his car, he stares at his younger brother who continues to walk away.

Tahwan stares at the sky while walking when Seung Nyang, who is busy fixing her things in her bag, comes out from the backdoor of the restaurant and they accidentally bumps into each other. With a slow motion effect, Seung Nyang gets out of balance. Tahwan grabs her arms and tries to pull her towards his body to prevent her from falling. Slowly, their eyes meet as if they are telling to each other, “Have we met before?”

But due to the gravity of the earth, they eventually fall. Luckily, Tahwan manages to prevent Seung Nyang’s head hitting the ground. Seung Nyang, who is on top of Tahwan, groans and tries to get up but gets trapped again by his enchanting stare.
