NEW BEGINNINGS

Various species of trees continue to sprout leaves of various shades of green and red. Different varieties of flowers also continue to blossom beautifully giving off a sweet fragrance in the cool air. This signals a new birth...a new beginning.

After walking and jogging for hours, a young man who is on his late twenties takes a rest on a bench under a cherry blossom tree. He closes his eyes and attentively listens to the sounds around him. Then, he smiles.

His name is Kim Tahwan. He always spends his mornings either walking and jogging around or just enjoying the beautiful scenery. This always makes him relieved and relaxed. His phone rings. He answers it cheerfully.

It is Chae Young Rang, his mother, who is calling him and looks happy hearing his son’s voice. She tells him that they will be having dinner at his favourite restaurant. Tahwan smiles and agrees with his mother. Then, their conversation ended. 

After a few minutes, his phone rings again. He just smiles and looks at his phone, thinking it is his mother calling again. But it is not her. The smile turns into a worrisome look. He hesitantly answers it.  

Kim Joong Won, the “Master Sun” which his colleagues often call him, is the CEO of the Yuan Empire Group—one of the leading and most diversified company worldwide. As soon as he arrives at the company, Secretary Kim mentions his schedule for the day. When suddenly, Joong Won stops and looks at his secretary annoyingly. Secretary Kim repeats the last part on his schedule. He tells Joong Won that his father wants him to meet his younger brother, Kim Ta Hwan. 

Joong Won looks more disgusted than ever and tells to himself that his father really wants to complicate things. Then, he proceeds to his office with a serious look on his face.  

At Zeus Hotel, one of the most luxurious casino hotels in Asia, a group of men are playing poker and among them is Choi Oh Soo, the hotel’s Vice President for Operations. He visits the casino and plays poker once in awhile. At first, he loses but eventually wins. 

Choi Oh Soo goes back to his office when his phone rings. A woman is shouting and crying on the other line. The woman asks him if she did something wrong that he disliked. He tells her with a pitiful voice that their relationship should now end. Then, the woman continues to cry more desperately. Choi Oh Soo, starting to feel irritated, makes an excuse that there is something wrong in the line that he can’t hear her clearly. He turns off his phone and makes a long sigh. Then, he calls his secretary and orders him to get him a new phone again. 

 

Choi Young Do, his younger brother, enters his office. Young Do teases his older brother as being a certified playboy like their ancestor, Lee Hwon. Oh Soo just laughs at his brother and tells him that is what life is, to enjoy. Then, Young Do mentions Park Oh Young’s name. Oh Soo’s smile disappears. 

 

Park Oh Young, heiress of Park Land Group and Choi Oh Soo and Choi Young Do’s step sister, attends a business conference in Tokyo, Japan. The Japanese investors praise her intelligence, beauty and determination. Oh Young smiles sweetly and thanks them for appreciating her works. She tells them that it was his late father who taught everything to her. The event ends. She goes to her hotel room when she receives a message. She looks surprised then smiles.

 

Back to Korea. A woman comes out from a diner restaurant, puts her jacket and cap, and rides her bicycle towards the busy streets of Seoul. Cha Seung Nyang, a certified part-timer who works almost 24/7 and manages to sleep only for 4 hours.

 

She goes inside a cafe, puts on her uniform, and goes to the counter to take the customer’s orders. After a few hours when there aren’t any customers coming to the cafe, she gets her small notebook from her pocket and writes something. While writing, a couple, who is inside the cafe enjoying their frappucino, catches her attention. The guy looks at the girl with puppy eyes while the girl shows something to him. Suddenly, she remembers something then smiles sweetly.
